If this was last year...

... I'm sure we'd be going to a barbecue today, probably at Honey Jr's house, because barbecues are what they do in Provence on sunny weekends. But this is this year, and on this weekend this year, we spent all day yesterday purging the house of little boy cooties (my poor cousin and her boys were finally able to fly home yesterday), and then recuperating with a lovely evening featuring creamy pasta, New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, and some serious couch time watching American Hustle (it's amazing how restorative carbs, wine, and Bradley Cooper can be... P.S. I'm suffering some serious Amy Adams hair envy right now).

So if this was last year, I'd probably write a post about a barbecue that we went to like this here one below instead of soaking up the wonderful sound of silence that is circling all around me at the moment. Trust me when I say this my friends, silence is indeed golden.

How to have a successful BBQ in The LPV in eight easy steps:

Step 1: take one, shirtless Honey Jr. on a warm, sunny day

Step 2: grill an assortment of meats like; Merguez, Andouillette, Chipolata, and Toulouse sausages

Step 3: try not to gag when looking at or smelling the Andouillette

Step 4: add lots of friends

Step 5: and beer

Step 6: then have some cheese, because it's France

Step 7: play Pétanque because it's the south of France

Step 8: and make sure The Husband gets in plenty of quality time with his husband, Gatz.

Et voila!

  1. Creamy pasta, sauvignon blanc and a cosy night in sounds just fine to me but there is something special about a French barbecue which I remember well from when I lived in France. Toulouse sausages, merguez and amazing cheese followed by a game or two of pétanque - happy memories. However, I don't miss andouillettes barbecued or cooked any other way!

  2. Ditto the andouillettes. Love merguez.

  3. Is it in French men's DNA that they look good in shorts & t-shirts? As opposed to most British men...

  4. Don't go down this road (what I was doing last year....) it will crush you! Seriously. I had such bad France withdrawals last year, it brought tears to my eyes to remember what I'd been up the year before. And watching the Tour de France, arrrrhhhgh, painful. Sniff. x x x

  5. Awww, American Hustle is one of the best movies! How is America? Is it wonderful? Sometimes I dream of living in an American house again :)

  6. This sounds like a perfect BBQ to me :) You make me want one right now! Preferably in the south of France :D So happy to hear your cousin could fly home. Is she doing much better by now? Have a wonderful - hopefully quiet ;) - Sunday!

  7. I think I would prefer to spend my weekend in France or Buenos Aires ... than here in NY .. I think we were gone too long. I don't feel at home here.
On the other hand ... I didn't get to play petanque or have a BBQ with any honeys .. so that might just be the problem. besos, C

  8. I am happy to hear that your cousin is doing better! I am in the mood for a barbecue now! A nice cold beer and some grilling sounds good to me!

  9. Sounds perfect! Although I never understood the obsession with petanque ... ;)

  10. I have never understood the petanque thing either! Your posts make me howl. 'Make sure the husband spends time with his husband' - ha ha ha! Love it!

  11. The weather is definitely barbecue weather here! Yesterday the smell of barbecuing sardines wafted over the fence into my garden some time after we'd finished eating our fragrance-free (as far as the neighbours were concerned) salad and cheese lunch! Thank goodness they don't take long to cook!

  12. New Zealand, woo! Had some lovely weather this weekend here :)

  13. So glad your cousin is on the mend & home again. Step 4 - is it just me or does the guy in the blue shirt & sunglasses look just like John Terry?

  14. I must say in my year in France we never played pétanque, but all the other steps look quite familiar!
