hmmm

{I don't have anymore apples to give you!}

I interrupt this regularly scheduled program of 'my birthday weekend in Avignon' to bring you these snippets of my life here lately in The LPV.

++ See that pretty brown guy up there? That's my new buddy Aero, he belongs to my friend Martine (Martine is from Ireland and lives just around the corner from Le Petit Village. She likes Barry Tea and rugby so naturally, I like her). The other guy in the back there is Flurry. Flurry is fuzzy like a bunny and has a funny little moustache. They're both precious and I can't wait to introduce them to La Petite (I will not however be introducing them to Fifty. I'm pretty sure Fifty would have a canary of epic proportions.)

++ Last Sunday was pâté making day at Papa's house. And unlike last time, we ate lunch before getting down to all of that gooey, gross business. Which was smart, because 1. it's hard to have an appetite after pâté making and 2. I made Nutella Brownie Bites for dessert that were so scrumptious, they were like angel kisses from heaven dipped in chocolate and wrapped in love.

++ This conversation between Gatz and The Husband actually happened... Gatz asked; "All the girls are crazy about Ryan Gosling, I don't understand." To which The Husband replied; "Have you looked at him?" I love my husband.

++ And in another, 'I can't believe this actually happened' moment... Child Bride pointed to the picture of Channing Tatum on the cover of the Magic Mike DVD and said that Brother-in-Law's body was almost exactly like that. The Husband and I are still laughing.

++ We've finally started watching Homeland (I know, I know, we're way behind... so shhh your mouth... I don't want to know ANYTHING). The funny thing is, one of my birthday presents from The Husband was the box set of My So-Called Life (except in France it's called, Angela, 15 ans) and now I'm having one doozy of a time trying to convince The Husband that Angela and Carrie are indeed the same person.

++ Something amazing is happening! At this very moment, Girl Scout cookies are on their way to Le Petit Village... GIRL SCOUT COOKIES! My excuse for indulging was that I would introduce The Husband to the quintessential American goodness of the Girl Scout cookie, but now, I'm pretty sure I'm going to hoard them like Gollum and keep them all to myself (INSERT MANIACAL LAUGH HERE).

++ The Harlem Shake made the news here a few nights ago. Afterwards, The Husband stared at me for a couple of minutes basically asking me "why" as if by purely being American, I would somehow have the answer to this question. How would I know, I'm not Yoda.

  1. I've never had the pleasure of tasting a girlscout cookie. I have however had Speculoos cookies - the can't stop till they're finished - national flavour of Belgium.
Do you get Speculoos in Le Petit Village?

  2. Mmmm, speculoos... thanks for that memory, Gabriel!
I didn't get the Harlem Shake, either, Sara, but I thought it was an age thing. Thanks for the mention above and doesn't Aero look sweet in has handsomeness and doesn't Flurry look sweet in his muddiness?

  4. Ryan Gosling!!! Yum. Haha love the conversations those two have!

Glad everything's going well there. Are you feeling better?

  5. So just curious, how will the whole cookie business go? Well I guess I should ask if there are specific flavors you requested or if it is to be more of a sampling situation. If sampling, will there be a big tasting or will it be one box at a time....and if the latter, where do you start and end and why?

  6. Sara, so what is your favorite girl scout cookie. It seems that every store you walk into has someone outside selling them right now. We have had multiple visitors trying to get them to buy some. We are all loaded up thanks to our precious girlscout granddaughter. Mint that's my favorite. And oh, if you ever get to Southern California, let me know and I will introduce you to Ryan Gosling. He has a relative living in one of our retirement communities.

  7. GS cookies cannot enter this house. Really, I will eat an entire sleeve of Thin Mints in one sitting. It's that, "they're so thin! One more won't hurt" mentality that always gets me.
Enjoy them and let us all know what The Husband thinks of them...if you let him try some of your stash ;)

  8. I love your new buddies!
    And your husband is hilarious!
It is so funny that "My so-called life" is called "Angela, 15 ans" in French! In German it is called "Willkommen im Leben" which means "Welcome to life".

  9. First off, your admittance to not being Yoda just brought my world to a crashing halt. But now that I've had these 8 seconds to come to terms with it, we've put the earth back on its axis and we can move onto more important things... GIRLSCOUTCOOKIES. Oh, Husband. He has no idea what he's in for. Samoas, Thin Mints... This is just the most magical season!

And the Harlem Shake... I don't get it. I mean, I totally encouraged it at my friend's wedding Friday night, and sure, I can't promise I wasn't the one who suggested it, but I still don't get it.

  10. Oh dear god the rugby today... still, the Scottish half of me was happy, but for crying out loud, what was Ronan O'Gara doing?!

Loving both the Ryan Gosling and Channing Tatum conversation (and wouldn't mind either of them ever turning up here to allow me to carry out any further research you would like in this area...)

GS Cookies and the Harlem Shake have completely passed me by (I've heard of the former, although never consumed any, I've never heard of the latter) Is my life complete?!

  11. Yeah for Girl Scout cookies, you better hoard those things since they only come around once a year :) Shauna {www.shaunawyrick.com}

  13. I still haven't seen Harlem Shake. That may well be a good thing.
I loved My So-called Life. I really thought I was just like Angela, but Jared Leto was not my boyfriend, and that sucked!

  14. YES HOMELAND! So glad you're on the band wagon.

And the Ryan Gosling comment, love.

  15. GIRL SCOUT COOKIES! Color me jealous.

Finally saw the Harlem shake this week also. My boyfriend had the exact same reaction as your husband. I DON'T KNOW WHY. Don't blame me.

  16. !!! My So-Called Life! Loved that show - would be so funny to watch in dubbed in French and all those teenagers talk so slow in their attempts to be deep and introspective that I bet I could even keep up!

  18. where to start????

first of all, i like eating pate, not sure about MAKING pate!!! choc brownies sound so much better...

Homeland — yes!! you will love it and blow through the first two seasons tout de suite.

GS cookies en France? say it isn't true - the little buggers made their way all to LPV? oh well, then you must order multiple boxes of thin mints. some for eating now, some to shove in the freezer and store like squirrels with nuts..

  19. Sorry. I'm being an Ignorant Brit...What are Girl Scout cookies and what makes them better than McVitie's Chocolate Digestives (of which I bought THREE boxes on special offer at Carrefour!!) (Cue: Happy Dance)

  20. LOL I had to call my man-friend the other day just to ask if there were girl scouts in Canada and if so, did they sell the same kind of cookies. They do. Relationship disaster averted. Whew.

  21. Get well soon! You're probably low on the rosé consumption, that's what's holding you down!! Or perhaps this calls for champagne...you know, to help the scratchy throat. Lay low and take care!

  22. Get well soon!! I just discovered the Harlem Shake recently...interesting indeed lol.

  23. Tell the husband that many, many, many, many Americans are asking "Why?" as well in regards to the Harlem Shake.

  24. Hahahaha this recap got me laughing good! Doesn't watching "My So-Called Life" 15 years later make you laugh out loud? The lines are classic: "You're so beautiful, it hurts to look at you." or "Excuse me. People throwing themselves at people? Is, like, the basis of civilization." I can keep going. Great gift from the Husband and good for him for "getting" the Gosling.

Now excuse me, I need to go google the Harlem Shake. : )

  25. Great pic of you and Aero :) He looks very much like my Willy, the horse I'm riding (including the dirt ;). Do you ride?
You have an amazing blog. Thanks for finding me!
