++ Honey Jr and Honey's Honey came over for l'apéro Thursday evening. Fifty was so excited when I told him and as soon as he heard their car driving up, he started F R E A K I N G out. His tail was moving so fast I thought he was going to take off.
++ Last weekend, Sarah B. and her husband were visiting from London, I haven't gotten around to posting about it yet but she has. If you would like to read about The LPV from someone who has visited and lived to tell the tale, you can do so here.
++ I came across this article about Buffalo Soldiers on Slate the other day and got a little misty eyed. My grandmother's grandfather was in the 9th cavalry and reading about it made my chest puff out a little so I knew that I had to share it with somebody. That somebody happens to be you.
++ Last night Papa and I shelled peas and drank Rosé. And let me tell you, shelling two kilos of peas, gives you lots of time to bond.
++ Today I'm off to a BBQ at Kirsty's house. Aidan is coming too. It's going to be great. Sunny 31°C (that's 92!), sitting poolside sipping Rosé with nonstop English chatter... H E A V E N. At Aidan's request, I'm making my macaroni salad (tastes like America) and Aidan is making some sort of blueberry dessert for us and brownies for the kids so they don't get blueberries all over themselves. So then I told her to make enough brownies for Gregory too because I don't want him covered in blueberries either (it would happen... trust me) but then we remembered that we can just throw him in the pool, so it will be OK. But I bet he eats both anyway.
Hehe, celery and leeks are not all that similar. Have fun at the BBQ!
ReplyDeleteSounds like you had a blast with Sarah B. (just checked out her great post!). Our holidays in the South are almost over :-( I envy you for the weather and another good six week of sunshine and mild evenings. Please send some sunbeams up North!!
ReplyDeleteThat is a lot of peas to shell! Sounds like you are having a good time, hope the weather stays good. Have a great weekend Diane.
ReplyDeleteI treat your blog like a chapter in my favorite novel. An early morning chapter that makes me dream and hope and long. I love every minute of it...so thanks!
ReplyDeleteAnd I loved every word in this comment! Thank you! :)
DeleteFifty is so cute :)
ReplyDeleteah, what a great saturday you have lined up. i'm driving to Grand Rapids today to teach tomorrow and then drive right back home. jealous? ; )
ReplyDeleteRose is the best!
ReplyDeletelol maybe he thought the leek was celery??
ReplyDeleteTwo sides of the shopping list are that sometimes in supermarkets in America, check-out personnel cannot identify a leek (how sad is that?) and secondly, I have to write all my shopping lists in French as The Artistic One still doesn't tune in to English and he likes to grocery shop. He doesn't read labels, just picks the prettiest packaging. We keep getting alcohol-free beer because there's a busty wench on the label, etc...etc...
ReplyDeleteHappy to hear that Fifty's friends came over to visit you. Sounds like you are going to have a blast at your bbq. Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteI'm still adjusting to this Gregory situation (as opposed to The Husband). It took me a few seconds to dig to see that I missed a very important post, because I was seriously like "Who the f is Gregory, and does Bradley Cooper know about him buying Sara's leeks?"
ReplyDeleteNow if Bradley Cooper had come home with a leek instead of celery, I'm pretty sure I would have forgiven him ;-)
DeleteThey are green and long. I get it.
ReplyDeletexxx
and yes lacey, who the hell is Gregory?
ReplyDeleteI guess you missed this one:

You're claiming that you will NOT eat a brownie? hard to imagine!
ReplyDeleteI'm normally not a chocolate person, but I'm not a blueberry person either, however, I AM a brownie person, so I gave Gregory my blueberry dessert, and ate a brownie... it was SOOOOOOOOO good!
DeleteHaha a leek? I stopped trying to send my husband to the store for groceries. He comes home with the weirdest things.
ReplyDeleteAnd are we going to share the recipe for macaroni salad?
ReplyDeleteI make Martha's macaroni salad, it's pretty good.

He should have taken me along - I know what celery is!!!
ReplyDeletenice! i love it!
ReplyDeletevisit my blog? http://raellarina.blogspot.com/
and if you like it, feel free to click that follow button pretty! ^^)
I did not get to go to France this summer and you are really, really making me miss it!
ReplyDeletehaha - that's hilarious - a frenchman who doesn't know le difference between celery and a leek! (and i thought all the french were experts in cooking....did you end up substituting it in your dish? ;-)
ReplyDeletei can totally relate to the celery mishap.....the grocery store can be a challenging place....i'm so glad my mom learned to text because i often text her things such as "what aisle would karo syrup be on"....."what the heck is minced garlic (i'm making a recipe)" or "how many packages of chicken is 6 cups"......i totally bet the leeks were disguised as celery that day.
ReplyDeletei love your blog, to express your views, this is the correct way.
ReplyDeleteSomehow shelling peas and drinking Rosé don't go together - only in the LPV! xo
ReplyDeleteHaha. My husband does stuff like that too. Ususally I get a call asking me what some item on the list is because it's half in french and half in english and he doesn't know what I mean.
ReplyDeleteI can totally picture Gregory at the supermarket grabbing that leek and shrugging..."seems like celeri to me!"... I love it.
ReplyDeleteFifty's face! oooooo I am squeezing face
ReplyDelete. . . and lmao at the rest of this post! I have a husband just like yours. Ooooo la la the lists!
