s.n.a.f.u.

{my glasses and me in happier times}

It was Saturday morning. I was standing in H&M, shopping with Aidan, when I reached for my glasses, best to put them on in case we got separated in the store (people become furry blurry when they are more than twenty feet away from me), but they weren't in my purse. No biggie, because I remembered that I left them on the breakfast table that morning before we headed out for some girl time at Odysseum (Montpellier's outside shopping mall... I wish Le Petit Village had an outside shopping mall but that would be silly).

Shopped out and full of sushi we returned to Aidan's and I went straight to the breakfast table to grab my glasses, only they weren't there.

Where oh where could my glasses be?

I tore apart my room (yes, I have a room at Aidan's house) emptied my bag, and purse, over and over, but no glasses.

We scoured the house, the terrace, the trash, but still, no glasses.

Aidan said that she had hoped that Clementine hadn't taken them. I laughed at this. There is no way that a sweet dog like Clementine Mirabel Petals could do such a thing. Right?

{don't let the sweet face fool you}

Wrong.

Of course she did.

We found my glasses in the back garden. The lenses gnawed on, one popped out altogether, and an arm mangled to bits. It was a sad sight.

Obviously Clementine's golden sweetness is hiding a terrible secret. She's a kleptomaniac with a penchant for torture.

RIP Ray Bans

P.S. At least Clementine didn't throw a window through my shower like someone else did.
Yeah Bec, I'm looking at you.

  1. And I was right with my Facebook post, you are not alone! My best friend Amy had a big ass Golden that ate, freaking ate, my glasses one night. Sheesh, I always say "You're pretty much not alone in anything" and here you have it. Crazy...

  5. Clementine says she's sorry. And she feels sad. And she wants you to come back when you get some newer, more expensive glasses. So she can eat them too.

  6. Oh no! Do you go to a French Optometrist or wait until you go home? If I go to one here, I'll have to write out all the letters or be faced with a serious prescription for messing up all the "Eh" and "Uh" vowels.

  7. This Clementine looks so darn cute I can just picture her cute sweet eyes of guilt knowing that she did that to your glasses. Sucks though! When I was five I got my first ever amazing raincoat that I was so excited about and one day I left it on the puppy cage only to come home and have my prized possession ripped apart. I yelled at my (large husky) puppy and she gave me those sad eyes and I told her, "Never mind, it's ok!" Dogs (sigh)! Five year olds (sigh).

  11. Oh, no! Poor glasses! Reminds me of this story about a cat in the UK...

  16. Oh man, that is one adorable puppy. But your glasses were also very snazzy. I would not have known how to react in a glasses destroyed by really cute puppy situation!

  17. It must have been a sad sight, but on the bright side, without your glasses you probably couldn't see it :-)

  18. It sounds like Clementine is a kindred spirit to my Duffy, who has been suffering some stomach ailment as of late, but I can't figure out what weird thing she must have eaten. She has a penchant for ballpoint pens...but she has chewed up one pair of sunglasses.

    That outdoor shopping center sounds like it needs my investigation!

  19. Puppies love to chew...but, she is sooooo darling!

  20. Oh NO! When our dog was a puppy she chewed up every SINGLE one of my shoes. Not my husband's...only mine. When she hit 9 months, she never chewed anything again. Maybe there is hope for that cute little thing.

  21. Apparently dogs can behave a lot like 3 year olds...not to be trusted or left alone around any items you actually need/like/value. :)

  26. I knew it was the dog! The same thing happened to me at my in-law's country house. I got my beloved glasses fixed and they have never been the same. I do believe they are traumatized...

  27. Oh no... there is nothing more tragic than something happening to your glasses/contacts. I would probably forgive that dog though because she is absolutely adorable!

  28. Oh no!! Too bad she is so dang cute.

  29. Haha I love the way you wrote this! The dog is always to blame! I don't know how many things I've lost to dogs lol. The cuteness always makes up for it though!
