The first weekend of December, Papa's Wife usually hosts a Raclette party to usher in the holiday season (I love her for this by the way... and if you served me melted cheese all night I'd love you too). She did it last year, and she did it the year before (and I could have sworn that I posted about that but I can't find it so I guess I didn't. Apologies).
The usual suspects were there last night... Papa, his wife (duh), Brother-in-Law, Child Bride, La Petite, The Husband, and me (and I forgot my camera, hence no photos... lame I know). But last night, besides the normal cheesey goodness, Miss France was on television, so of course we had to watch it. And let me tell you, watching beautiful, 20 year old, French women strut around in heels and bathing suits to the theme song from Wonder Woman, while stuffing myself with melted cheese has to be my favorite new past time.
Sure she won a crown, but did she get to eat her own weight in cheese?

we watched it too. She was my favorite of the finalists. Miss Bretagne wasn't that great looking. And it was annoying how most of them said "I would like to represent my region", uh Miss France represents France, not just her little region.
ReplyDeleteShe looks like a princess!
ReplyDeleteOn the cheesey side, I remember how good a raclette tasted from long ago time spent in Switzerland, but had forgotten all about them until you reminded me just now. Yum!
I almost died laughing when they came out wearing the Miss "Scarlet" O'Hara outfits!
ReplyDeleteYou are so funny! My girls watched and kept score last night. They told me that Miss Bretagne was Dumb, Miss Centre was gorgeous and they were happy that Miss Alsace won.
ReplyDeleteHa! That is funny/freaky about the wine! Melted cheese? Yes please!! xo
ReplyDeleteI could so go for some cheesy goodness right now, le sigh. The Miss France dresses were hysterical! I couldn't decide if they were awesome or comical...I'm leaning towards awesome (mostly because they reminded me of Cinderella gowns).
ReplyDeleteThat's a lot of cheese (Yes, both kinds) for one night. I've never been able to stomach those contests. My mother however, loved them and she would often serve "snackies" for dinner when they were on. This entailed a warm and bubbly bean dip, little smokies in BBQ sauce, cream cheese and bagel chips along with assorted cheese, cold cuts and crackers...same thing we had on Oscar Night every year. Must be something about cheese and glamor!
ReplyDeleteYum!! Melted cheese is delish! And I'm sure she didn't get to eat any marching around in a teeny bikini. :)
ReplyDeleteHaha. The whole Miss thing is hilarious in itself, but you've made it even funnier. Bon appetit! :-)
ReplyDeleteYou could hide a lot of cheese - melted or not - under that skirt! I want to try raclette, but I am guessing you need a recipe and a special pan - right?
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful evening! I can't wait until Miss America comes on so I can drink wine and eat my weight in cheese. I'm sure I'm much happier than those women anyway.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like it would be one of my favourite past times too! Just substitute "Miss France" for "America's Next Top Model"!
ReplyDeleteI love raclette with or without a beauty pageant in the background. I think the fact that Miss Alsace won and you were drinking Reisling wine was not a coincidence.
ReplyDeleteMelted cheese? Swoon!
ReplyDeleteIs it really on TV in France? The "Miss Germany" shows are never on TV and you can't barely read something about it in the newspapers. Sadface.
Here's to a happy week. XO.
I don't think she ate her whole weight in cheese but maybe definitely in choucroute! I didn't see it, but now I'm craving raclette!
ReplyDeleteNow I really want cheese ... Mr. A had this cheese last night that tasted more like meat than cheese. It was awkward.

I loved how genuinely happy she looked! And maybe it's just me (jaded by Miss America's ladies) but they seem more natural than ours here. Less plastic surgery? So classically beautiful. Although I didn't care for the dress as much. :)
ReplyDeleteFun to watch another country's pageant!
any kind of surgery is forbidden for miss France, that's why French never win miss world or universe contest, all the countries are full of plastic surgery except them
DeleteHow I love a good raclette! With Alsace wine too? Why, you were really spoiling yourselves ;) xx
ReplyDeleteYou get to eat cheese and she doesn't. You win.
ReplyDeleteHaha I love this! I am definitely going to watch miss universe with a big bag of reece's peanut butter cups next time :)
ReplyDeleteDang. I missed the Miss France pageant this year - I remember being curled up with a Fitou watching this in my crappy [freezing] Cap d'Agde apartment last year. Glad one of the great wine regions of France won!
