the long weekend

Last weekend was a long one here. La Fête Nationale (Bastille Day to you and me) was Thursday and The Husband had Friday off too. Extra long weekends mean a trip to Auvergne to see French Mommy. It went a little something like this:

... 5am; time to hit the road because no traffic is awesomesauce.
... finding Vitamin Water at some truck stop along the way is like winning the lottery (a small lottery, but a mini jackpot nonetheless). I bought six. Score.
... 11am arrival at French Nana's bar.
... beef tongue for the husband, steak and frites for me (this is becoming a bit of a tradition).
... Cantal for The Husband, Bleu d'Auvergne for me.
... r e l a x
... visit my friends in the cellar
... bed.

... play tourist
... go to the park

... r e l a x
... bed.

... visit French Mommy at work
... put these booties on for cleanliness
... feel stupid in booties
... lunch with French Mommy. Fish for her, duck for me, tripe for The Husband, because he always finds it necessary to order the yuckiest thing on the menu.
... r e l a x
... bed.

... said goodbye to French Nana
... hit the road

à bientôt

  1. I want a French Mommy and a French Nana...(But no tongue. No ma'am. Not for me.)

  2. that's a good weekend!!

    french mommy sounds so sweet.

& i love duck! always my choice when they have it!

  3. I have a lot of friends here who would love me even more if MY French Mommy owned a bar!!! ;-) Veronique aka French Girl in Seattle

  4. French Nana has a bar? How did I miss this detail?? And your hubby digs tripe?! I've had some, in Japan, no one told me. It didn't taste bad, but, it was tough to chew on. That may have been how it was prepared, but, yeah I don't think I'll try it again.

  5. I do love your friends in the cellar, making that the most perfect of weekends! No mention of Fifty barfing his way across the miles... Did he decline to join the voyage or has he found a way to avoid motion-sickness?

    Glad your time was good!

  6. I don't think you've ever mentioned (or if you have I missed it) ... what does The Husband do that we gets a 4 day weekend? Gotta love that!

  7. Sounds like a great weekend! I think I need a french nana as the very least I need a trip to france. : ) But I'll keep reading your stories for now!

  8. Sounds like a great weekend. Those booties crack me up.

  9. What stood out here to me was "tripe." YUCK.

  10. Relaxing week end baby!
Nice, I'd like to go to thermes too. This year we'll don't come in Provence, just few days in mountain near Austria and 10 days in Chicago in september...
    Bisou, Babi

  11. Ewww...I agree, tripe is GROSS. My cousin made it once for her swiss husband....the whole house smelled like it!

  12. What a great the photo of you on the train in the park.

  13. fantastic weekend, sara!

but i have to ask.........where does french mommy work? a spa? it has a certain versailles look to the building!

p.s. ixnay on the beef tongue. yuk. i'd stick to steak frites as well ;-)

  14. Tripe!
Did you taste it? I'd try a teeny bite I wonder what it's like? I'm guessing 'not chicken'

  15. It sounds like a lovely weekend!

  16. I may scam this short idea post from you, hysterical!
