one year

It's St Patrick's Day. Everyone will be wearing green, drinking Shamrock Shakes, green beer,  and celebrating. But today, I will be celebrating one year since The Boyfriend became The Husband.

One year ago today, in a small chapel in Massachusetts, my father, The Reverend, performed my little wedding ceremony with a handful of people looking on and me translating bits for The Husband.

And after the ceremony, after the dinner, after getting free drinks in a bar from everybody because it was St Patricks day and we were in wedding attire (a fantastic cherry on top of my wedding sunday by the way), and after we returned to Le Petit Village as a married couple, this is what I had to say about the day... (originally posted 7th April 2010)
................................................................................................................

A funny thing happened on St. Patrick's Day. I married The Boyfriend. Oh, did I forget to mention that we were getting married? Oops, my bad.

That's us getting ready to walk into the church (the same church my great grandparents got married in). I'm not too sure what the confused look on my face is all about. At least I still look fabulous in my wedding tunic. Who needs a wedding dress when you can have a wedding tunic? Bonus of the tunic... not needing a bridesmaid to help you go pee. And I know what I'm talking about, I've been that bridesmaid.

Me again. This time wearing my Nana's fifty plus year old mink cape which turns me into my alter ego... Fabulous Girl. Fabulous Girl doesn't fight crime or anything. She just hangs out... being fabulous.

Me and The Husband (that's weird, not used to his new name at all) and some pretty nifty wedding presents.

Having our red velvet wedding cake and eating it too at The Old Inn On The Green with the Best Man Girl (who needs a Best Man when you can have a Best Man Girl) and the Matron of Honor (who by the way was 'that' bride I had to help go pee pee).

And finally us again, the happy and very tired couple at a bar much later that evening (it was St. Patrick's Day after all). The way all weddings should end; pissed in a bar next to someone wearing a moose hat.
................................................................................................................

To The Husband...

Thank you for being you,

and letting me be me.

bisous

  1. Oh for sweet!! Congrats on what sounds like a fabulous first year! You two truly make a fabulous looking couple and I covet your wedding tunic. (And by covet, I mean in the way of someone who's totally NOT contemplating marriage anytime soon.)

Here's to many more years of joy and love :)

  2. Happy Anniversary! Your wedding looks like it was TONS of fun! We skipped the going out/party part of our wedding, which in retrospect was a bit of a bummer. Perhaps it's an excuse to have a wedding again? Somehow I don't see people going for that plan. I LOVE that you wore a tunic, and that you ended the night "pissed in a bar next to someone wearing a moose hat." I'm so glad that through the magic of the internet we can be blogging buddies! You rock!

  3. Happy anniversary, what a fun day to mark such a special day in your lives!

St. Paddy's is the biggest day of the year for our pub (Bring on the green beer, Irish Car bomb shots and let the cash flow in!!!)
Fingers crossed that our patrons will be especially thirsty this year!

May the next 50 be as fantastic as the first one!!! (get it, 50 .. oh man, I'm losing it here).

Oh, and Mrs Biscuit, I noticed the moose hat too. WHAT a wedding it would have been if there is a moose hat at the party (-:

    Congrats (-:
    Well done.
    Tres bien (-:

  12. I lover that tunic. Have you been able to wear it since the wedding? Very stylish. And I wouldn't normally be in to fur, by I do like that stole...and those minks lived a long time ago back when furs were made out of minks that lived long happy lives and died of natural causes, no?

    hehe happy anniversary.

I remember reading your blog post announcing it, and squealing and giggling and getting a little misty. Future Husband was like, "What? What's so awesome?"

And I said, "He's The Husband now! She married The Boyfriend!" And did a little kicky dance on the couch.
