Sometimes something happens here that makes me feel better about all the little mistakes I make while butchering the French language. For instance, when a French person flubs something in English, that usually makes me feel pretty warm and fuzzy. Sunday it was Papa's Wife's turn to make me feel good with her rendition of the Grease Classic; 'You're the One That I Want'.
Danny Zuko: I got chills. They're multiplyin'.
Papa's Wife: I've got cheese, for my fire.
(wtf?)
So funny I almost snorted a little couscous out my nose.

Almost.
Haha - how did she not know they go,
ReplyDelete"I got cheese, they're mine for flying'"?
Who doesn't love a good song about cheese?
haha, that is too funny! My man is German, and sometimes he pronounces the odd word really funny. Its quite humorous at times!
ReplyDeleteha! I had to sit through a wedding reception about 5 months ago, hearing two yokel italian singers mess up every english song they tried. It was a surreal experience. In fact, I nicknamed them The Two Butchers Sublime. Ah, foreign life!
ReplyDeleteGrandpa's wife must be from the north east section of France, eh? I'd laugh harder if I didn't make the same kinds of mistakes with song lyrics.....in my own language! However, the mistakes are far funnier when you add in a thick, french accent.
ReplyDeleteAh. When I was young and more attractive I had a little trouble trying to ditch a man who had sidled up to my table in a cafe. (No-body knows de trouble I seen...) He wanted to buy me a drink; he wanted to buy me a pastry. I told him, "no, merci, je suis pleine..." and he took off like a shot. Need to brush up on those idioms.
ReplyDeleteThis reminds me of N'oublie pas les paroles! when the contests open and they decide to sing a song in English and they do it with a horrible accent but all the French people are super impressed.
ReplyDeleteSo funny, nothing as charming as the french speaking english. my french boyfriend has some cute interpretations of english lyrics too, last time it was the intro to nip/tuk that got a whole other meaning..hilarious!
ReplyDeleteFantastic!! It's kind of like when little kids learn pop songs and they just pout in words that sound about right, even if they make no sense.
ReplyDeleteThis is a good one :)
Hahaha! What a hoot! So innocent and just slays me... children do this all the time, but how funny she first thinks of "cheese" -- I do understand the challenges and it was your turn to have a giggle... keep 'em coming!
ReplyDeleteBises,
Genie
Classic! What do you say after that? There's not a lot... Yes! Watch It's Complicated! SO FUNNY! You'll love it. : )
ReplyDeleteThat WAS funny!! Haha...
ReplyDeleteI love malaprops like that!
ReplyDeletehahahahahaha
ReplyDeleteI don't even know where that came from...
ReplyDeleteToo funny! But I shouldn't laugh - I recently learned Aerosmith's song is "Dude looks like a lady," and not the "Do the lucky lady" as I've been singing all these years. And I have no language barrier as an excuse!
ReplyDeleteCheese + fire - must be a fondue thing.
ReplyDeleteI confess I still don't know the words after "You're the one that I want"....
Haha, hilarious. I would have snorted , if it was me:).
ReplyDeleteBWAHAHAHAH!!!!!
ReplyDeleteOnly the French would think it's rational to sing 'I've got cheese for my fire'
Awesome. That seriously made my day.
hahaha! I've said some of the dumbest stuff is Spanish!
ReplyDeleteOne of the worst (wasn't me) was when an instructor of mine told a group of people he had 52 anuses instead of saying he was 52 years old. lol That was an awkward moment!
Oh I love that. Leave it to my beloved French to make it about food right? Gave me a big grin this morning lady!
ReplyDeleteROFL that's awesome!! Seriously, make sure you aren't eating thing the next time she starts singing songs in English. Don't want to have an embarassing situation on your hands there. ;-)
ReplyDeleteLOL man... this made my morning. Thanks!
My grandparents were from Germany and always came up with interesting English word. The best would be when we would go out to dinner and they were ordering food and would throw in German words on accident and the waiters had NO idea what they were talking about. I don't know what's so hard about "pasketti with das fleisch" ?
ReplyDeleteLOL!! Yep, that makes me feel warm and fuzzy too!
ReplyDeletethat is priceless :)
ReplyDeleteI'm ok with this. Cheese is never a bad thing to have!
ReplyDeleteI like it very much! you can see my blog on: http://vikifiles.wordpress.com/2011/03/02/hello-world/
ReplyDeleteAwesome! In her defense, cheese is definitely the best fire-starter. Thanks for stopping by my blog!
ReplyDeleteHa! Too cute! Your life is such a little adventure! xo
ReplyDeleteit's the little things.
ReplyDeleteHa ha ha ha! So super funny - he did both of us a favor...I feel a lot better about my French too :)
ReplyDeleteHahahahahaahahahahaha That was so funny! There's a French guy at my school, and he broke out singing that song one day and I could not stop laughing!
ReplyDelete"I've got cheese for my fire?" I would have pissed my pants, just reading about it made me come pretty close.
ReplyDeleteOMG, hilarious!
ReplyDeletehaha! this is absolutely hilarious! i love hearing frenchies mess up song lyrics!
ReplyDeleteha ha ha... totally worth a little snorted cous cous!
ReplyDeleteThat is priceless! For the longest time I thought the French lyric in the Beatles' "Michele" was, "Sunday morning won't play piano songs, play piano songs." Pathetic...just pathetic!
